There were 453,000 initial jobless claims filed in the week ending September 18th, down 16,000 from an upwardly revised 469,000 the previous week, according to the Labor Department’s weekly report.

Economists surveyed by Briefing.com were expecting 457,000 new claims.

The Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending September 24, 2010 decreased 0.8 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier.

On an unadjusted basis, the Index decreased 1.0 percent compared with the previous week.
